Thank you for your interest in Troi File Plug-in. This FileMaker^® Pro plug-in adds file and folder manipulation: save or read a field from or to a file. Other manipulations like deleting files and creating folders are also possible.

This cross-platform plug-in is compatible with FileMaker Pro 9 to FileMaker Pro 11 and enhances their functions. Finally you can do things you thought were still impossible to do with FileMaker Pro. Now you can create powerful databases by using this plug-in!

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

INSTALLING A (TROI) PLUG-IN FOR THE FIRST TIME.

• For Mac OS X: put the file "Troi_File.fmplugin" from the folder "Mac OS Plug-in" into the "Extensions" folder in the FileMaker Pro 11 folder (or the FileMaker Pro 10 or 9 folder). If you have installed previous versions of this plug-in, you must remove them.
• For Windows: put the file "Troi_File_Plugin.fmx" from the directory "Windows Plug-in" into the "Extensions" subdirectory in the FileMaker Pro 11 directory (or FileMaker Pro 10 or 9 directory). If you have installed previous versions of this plug-in, you must remove them.

You may want to install other plug-ins before proceeding. Then (re)start FileMaker Pro. Troi File Plug-in will display a dialog box, indicating that it is loading and showing the registration status. You can now open the file "All File Examples.fp7" to see how to use the plug-in's functions.

What Troi File Plug-in can do for you

The file manipulation functions make it possible to save the contents of a (text)field or global to a file. You may calculate a path name or let the user indicate a location on your disk through a Save as dialog box. The reverse is also possible: have the user select a file and read it into a field. Additional functions let you query detailed information of a file: the size on disk, creation and modification dates etc. Other manipulations include creation, deletion, copying and moving of files, and the creation of folders.

Writing IPTC metadata to JPEG files

Starting with version 3.5 writing of IPTC metadata was introduced, and version 4.5 introduced writing Exif metadata. As this is a very powerful feature, please read the separate readme on writing IPTC + Exif metadata before using this feature.

NOTE Troi File Plug-in will probably run fine with earlier FileMaker versions 7 to 8.5, but we have not tested these earlier FileMaker versions and we do not provide support for this. Also note that the example files may use features only available in FileMaker 9 and higher.

Troi File Plug-in 5.5 does not run on versions prior to FileMaker Pro 7. If you need to run on versions prior to FileMaker Pro 7: see our web site for the Troi File Plug-in 2.8.2. The 2.8.2 version runs on FileMaker 6, 5.x and 4.x.

Also note that Troi File Plug-in, with older FileMaker versions, will probably run on older operating systems for example Mac OS X 10.4 or Windows 2000, however, we do not support this.

FileMaker Server requirements

FileMaker Server 9 or FileMaker Server Advanced 9.
FileMaker Server 10 or FileMaker Server Advanced 10 or higher.
FileMaker Server 11 or FileMaker Server Advanced 11 or higher.

Using Troi File as server-side plug-in
It has always been possible to use FileMaker Server to serve databases that use functions of the Troi File Plug-in (client-side): You need to have the plug-in installed at the client's computer. Now Troi File Plug-in can also be used by FileMaker Server as a server-side plug-in or as a plug-in used by the web publishing engine. To use Troi Plug-ins as a server-side or web-side plug-in you need to purchase a special Server/Web license. See below for pricing.

Troi File Plug-in is a commercial product

You can try-before-you-buy. This means that you are free and invited to test the plug-in 30 days before you pay. You may also make copies of the original and complete package (including this Read Me file) and distribute it to customers, friends etc. However, you may not distribute a modified or licensed version.

Use Troi File Plug-in at your own risk

Although Troi File Plug-in was tested carefully, we can not be responsible for any damages resulting from using this software. Also please try it out on a test database. Your system may be using an extension (unknown to us) that interferes with the proper functioning of Troi File Plug-in.

We like to hear feedback on the benefits and shortcomings of the plug-in. Please include the platform and operating system in your suggestions and comments.

Upgrades from previous versions

You need to use a new 5.5 version of the registration. If you bought a license on or after June 21st, 2010 the upgrade is FREE! Note: the 5.5 version needs a new registration string. Eligible users have been sent a new registration string in July 2011. Contact us if you have not received yours.

If you bought a license before June 21st, 2010 you will need to buy an upgrade to use the 5.5 version.

All Troi Plug-ins are available for Macintosh and Windows. When ordering please indicate for which platform you are ordering.

How to pay?

Paying for a license is easy. We have several ways to pay. More information on this can be found on the order page on our web site: http://www.troi.com/software/order.html. You can pay online by credit card via Kagi, who also accepts PayPal, checks and cash.

Protection and unlocking the application

Troi File Plug-in has a protection scheme. After you pay Troi Automatisering will tell you how to indicate to Troi File Plug-in that you have paid the license fee.

After you've supplied the payment data the following is changed:

• the not registered warning is replaced by your name.
• the flash screen that shows at the first time the plug-in is used is removed. Of course also the delay (which is longer after 30 days of use) will be removed.
• the plug-in no longer stops working after 42 minutes.
